About this site
We're working on it." Ce guide explique le gag, l'épisode, et ce que le site fait — et ne fait pas.
Yes, the website on that DMV sign is real. In Treehouse of Horror XXXVII, the Season 38 Halloween special of The Simpsons that premiered on Fox on Sunday, October 25, 2026, the Springfield DMV has a sign outside that reads: "VISIT OUR WEBSITE AT our-website-is-broken.org". Type that address into your browser and the joke keeps going — the domain is live.
What you see when you visit
The real our-website-is-broken.org is a plain black page. The browser tab title says "D'oh". On the page there is a donut emoji and three short words: "We're working on it." That is the whole site. There are no forms, no login, no queue number and nothing to book or renew. The page does nothing, and that is exactly why the gag works — a broken office pointing you to a broken website, and admitting it on the sign outside.
The moment in the episode
The sign appears in the third and final segment, "Vehicular Dadslaughter". Bart and Lisa break into the Springfield DMV after hours and find it run by witch versions of Patty and Selma, with the department renamed the Department of Magical Vexation. Homer is trapped inside, stuck starring in driver-education films. The other two segments are "Bride's Shed Revisited", where a magical shed swaps Marge's husbands, and "Dog Boy Afternoon", where Bart and Santa's Little Helper swap bodies. The episode opens with a stop-motion homage to The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Jeff Probst and Tiffany Haddish appear as guest stars.
Why the show keeps a real domain for a two-second gag
Registering a domain is cheap, and keeping a one-page site running costs very little — but every fan who checks the address and finds the black page tells someone else, so a two-second sign keeps working for weeks. There is a defensive side too: if the production had left the address unregistered, anyone could have bought it the morning after broadcast and filled it with ads or scams. Holding the domain keeps control of the joke. Screenshots of the sign spread across social media on October 26 and 27, 2026, with captions joking that this was the most honest government website notice ever published.
What this site is not
Our-website-is-broken.org is not a DMV. It offers no services, takes no personal details and books nothing. If a page claiming to be this site ever asks for your ID number, password or card details, it is a copycat — close it. When a website you genuinely need is down, wait and retry, check whether it is down for everyone, try another browser or device, and use the official phone line or office if a deadline is close.
